Nigel is 39 years old and has lived in Langley Mill for 10 years. He served on Amber Valley Borough Council, and Heanor and Loscoe Town Council until May 2011. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant and worked locally as a tax adviser, specialising in advising UK businesses on International Tax issues.
Nigel was born in Jacksdale and has lived in the area his whole life. Aside from politics, he is a keen follower of sport – he is a season ticket holder at Notts County and a member of Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club.
He also enjoys travelling with his wife, Alice, and drinking the occasional real ale.
Nigel has been involved in local politics since 1997, and has served on Amber Valley Borough Council since 2004, representing Shipley Park, Horsley and Horsley Woodhouse ward. He was also elected to Heanor and Loscoe Town Council in 2007.
Nigel has a degree in Classics from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1999. He worked as a tax adviser for 12 years, originally dealing with small businesses and personal tax, moving on to advise businesses on international tax issues and especially on inward investment into the UK.
He was elected Member of Parliament for Amber Valley in 2010.
