On Monday 5th June, I took the opportunity to ask the minister responsible for Army Cadet Forces, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Defence, Mark Lancaster MP about what support the Government provides to Army Cadet Forces following contact from a member of a local Army Cadet detachment.

Army cadet forces play an important role in our local community, offering challenging and enjoyable activities for young people aged 12 – 18, preparing them to play an active part in the community while developing valuable life skills. We have three detachments based in the constituency in Alfreton, Ripley and Heanor which do a fantastic job supporting local young people offering unparalleled experiences and opportunities.

The Government provide much needed funding to detachments, which is absolutely invaluable in supporting Army Cadet Forces, however, Army Cadet Forces rely on membership to provide the best opportunities for local young people and enhance their experience.

If you, or anyone you know might be interested in joining a local Army Cadet Force, you can find out more about local detachments and how to join by clicking here.

 Nigel Mills MP:

The Secretary of State set out the importance of cadet forces around the UK, but cadets in Heanor, in my constituency, report that they lack the funds to get the full experience they want and deserve. Is there a way of squeezing out more money so that cadets can get the experience they need?

Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Defence, Mark Lancaster MP:

I am grateful to my hon. Friend for his commitment to supporting the community cadet force in his constituency. The Army Cadet Force receives £81 million a year distributed between the various detachments across UK counties. Derbyshire has a vibrant cadet representation. All three detachments in his constituency—Alfreton, Ripley and Heanor—see healthy attendance and are funded appropriately.
